Pipelines and tooling for influenza sequence data.
Andrew LaPointe builds software for handling influenza sequence data at NIH. His primary project is a multi-source pipeline that fetches genomes and metadata from several public databases of influenza isolates and assembles them into uniform datasets for phylogenetic analysis. A central challenge in that work is deduplication: the same isolate is often deposited in multiple databases under slightly different names, so he built a tool that matches isolates by semantic name and metadata similarity. He has also developed metadata comparison tools that support this pipeline.
Beyond influenza, he has built bacterial and proteomic data visualization tools and cloud-based antimicrobial resistance pipelines. He holds a B.S. in computer science, with a concentration in functional programming, from Brigham Young University–Idaho.
