Alvin Crespo-Bellido, Ph.D.

Alvin Crespo-Bellido is a postdoctoral fellow in the Virus Evolution Lab, applying phylodynamic approaches to study the evolution, transmission, and pandemic potential of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza viruses. During 2023-2025, he was a Visiting Guest Researcher at the NIH studying SARS-CoV-2 in farmed mink while serving a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, in the laboratory of Professor Andrew Bowman.

He received his B.S. in biology from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez and earned his Ph.D. in ecology, evolution, and natural resources from Rutgers University, where he studied the evolutionary dynamics of single-stranded DNA viruses in the laboratory of Professor Siobain Duffy.
