Swine are a persistent source of pandemic risk, and the traffic runs in both directions: human seasonal viruses seed swine populations far more often than the reverse. We track influenza A viruses through the interconnected circuit of U.S. agricultural fairs and exhibitions, where children and pigs meet, and across the international movement of live animals that carries lineages between continents.
